Lokan Bakar and Grilled Coconut or Kelapa Bakar is one of the famous eateries in Kota Kinabalu. It is located at the roadside stalls in the Kg Salut area in Jalan Sulaman along Tuaran Road.

Although they’re only ordinary stalls, the foods give you unforgettable tastes, making you crave more. The clams (Polymesoda Expansa) or loan is a bivalve of mollusks found in the stiff mud deep into the mangrove.

When you come to these stalls, you must try their Lokan Bakar, which has three different sizes such as big (RM12), medium (RM10), and small (RM7). Besides, they’re also serving raw clams that come in different sizes with big (RM10), medium (RM8), and small (RM5). Each serving comes with 20 units of clams. 

The taste of those BBQ clams is sweet and tender. The clams are on a zinc plate with a bit of oil, and since they’re a bit smelly, the clams have a mixture of sesame oil, ginger, lemongrass root, lime, black soy sauce, vinegar, and a bit of onion

The sweet smell of the clams certainly will arouse your appetite. 
The way they cook the clams keeps the original taste of them, and that’s the specialty of it. Other than that, the clams together with sambal or sour and spicy sauce make them tastier!

Grilled Coconut and Coconut Pudding 

The Grilled Coconut is a very healthy food because the taste is original with no sugar at all. In addition, hot coconut could regulate blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol. Other than that, the stalls also served many kinds of fried noodles and rice. 

After trying the BBQ clams, you should try the coconut juice, coconut pudding, and Grilled Coconut as well. The fresh coconut pudding is served either in a plastic cup or inside the coconut itself. The plastic cup coconut pudding costs RM2.50 while the one inside the coconut is RM4.00, and the grilled coconut is also the same price. 

Besides, the cup pudding comes in different flavors, such as coconut, sweet corn, and yam. The grilled coconut is cooked in a big pot above a fire until the skins turn black.
